Oak, cedar, birch—is there really a difference? As if shopping around for hardwood floor isn’t already complicated enough, there’s another factor to deal with on top of pricing, color and board length: wood species.  You probably have heard Premier Flooring Solutions throw around this cryptic term throughout our website and blog, but what is it? And why is it so important to hardwood flooring?

Wood, like all organic and living creatures, has characteristics that react differently to environmental factors.  Wood from different tree species will each have different coloring, varying reactions to the weather, unique grain structure, etc.  There are hundreds of varieties of tree species available, and having an understanding of each species helps both contractors and customers make educated decisions on flooring choices.
